Independent electoral commission created by Law 2005‑07 (replacing a 1997 commission). CENA is legally autonomous and financially independent. It traditionally has 12 members with 6-year terms (one-third renewed every 2 years)
It organizes voter registration, polling and counting, and publishes provisional results. The President of CENA (currently Doudou Ndoye) is usually a retired magistrate.
