The EC is a constitutionally independent body responsible for the management of all public elections and referenda in the country. Established in 1993, it is a seven-member body appointed by the President.
The EC’s duties include maintaining the national voter register, delimiting constituencies, regulating campaign finance, and declaring election results. Article 46 of the Constitution explicitly protects the EC from external control or direction.
