Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI)

The Commission Électorale Nationale Indépendante (CENI) was historically the main election-management body in Burkina Faso. It was responsible for maintaining and managing the national voter register, organizing and supervising all electoral operations (including referenda), and overseeing fairness in campaign activities and polling. However, in July 2025 the military-led transitional government formally dissolved the CENI, citing financial burden and a desire to reinforce sovereign control over elections. Its mandates were transferred to the Ministry of Territorial Administration.
